November Meme: Day 06, 07, and 08
Since I spent my entire weekend with Sam, including spending the night at his house Saturday night, I missed a couple of days of the November Meme. Oops. So, here's my catch-up post.
Day 06 - My Day
I spent my morning and most of the early afternoon over at Sam's mother's studio. I'm learning how to make pottery...well, more accurately I'm learning how to make Christmas ornaments from Sam's youngest sister, M. So far I suck at it, but supposedly with practice I'll get better. It's still a bit humbling and intimidating to watch her easily make two or three ornaments in the time it takes me to make one, and also hers look beautiful while mine remind me of things I made in art in Kindergarten. Still, it's fun to play with the clay and, as Sam's mom puts it, get dirty. I also get to watch Sam's mom on the pottery wheel making some beautiful mugs and bowls.
Then, I was invited to join the two of them plus the man that owns the studio for dinner at the place where Sam's dad cooks. First, we had to go back to Sam's house so his mom and sister could get changed (and because the restaurant didn't start serving dinner until 5:30). When we got there, we found out Sam didn't need to go into work (actually, he won the coin toss against M's boyfriend over going in), and so I invited Sam to go along. It was great food and awesome conversation. The man who owns the whole studio (Sam's mom just uses part of it) had some wonderful family stories that had us all laughing. (Actually, there's a great story behind the studio too, but that's for another time.)
Dinner was awesome, and then because I was spending the night, we had to come back to my house to pick up Sasha. On the way back to Sam's, we got a call for Sam to go do some tech support over at the studio since my computer apparently messed things up with their router (though the router is apparently malfunctioning so it's not all my fault). After the kiddo had impressed the owner with how silly and well behaved he was (much to my relief since it was past his bedtime), Sam finally finished repairing things and we headed on to Sam's house.
There was some family drama with regards to my mom, but I don't feel like explaining here if ever. We all pretty much collapsed when we got home.
Day 07 - My Best Friend
My best friend is Deec, who I've mentioned here off and on before. The story behind how we met is a bit long, and because I'm lazy, I'll skip it. I will, however, tell you the interesting bits.
Deec and I were born in the same city, our fathers were both Marines, and we both graduated from the same high school. The only difference is that he's ten years older than I am. We met when I was going to the University of South Carolina. His then-wife was in the same pagan group as me, and I was surprised as hell when she told me where Deec was from. A pagan who played Dungeons & Dragons from my hometown? I hardly believed it until we finally met in person and got to talking about things.
We got to know each other at a pagan gathering that actually kind of sucked, but we forged an awesome friendship that's lasted since 2001. Neither of us is very good at keeping in regular contact, but if I sent an email today or called him up, he'd respond right away. He's the first and only friend I've had for longer than a couple of years that I can say that about.
And, um, that's my best friend. (Like I said, I'm feeling lazy. Sorry.)
Day 08 - A moment
I'm not quite sure what is meant by "a moment." Does this mean a moment from my day, a sad moment, a happy moment, or a scary moment? There are lots of little moments I could pull from I guess.
Hmm, well, every single day whenever I go into the kitchen in the mornings, my cat Prissy is always there waiting for me. She starts mewing at me, loudly and the mews only increase in volume as to go over to the pantry, get a can of wet food, and they continue through the sound of the can opener until I set the food bowl down in front of her and then, there is a moment of blessed silence occasionally interrupted by the sounds of nomming and purring.
Really, one day I ought to get my phone and make a voice post of her mews.
