A Quote Before Bed

SMeyer takes every golden rule of grammar, imagery usage, character development and plot and mangles it with the sensitivity of a blind hippopotamus trying to find a rat's clitoris. - Taken from here.

For real lulz, read about Twihards' reactions to Stephen King's assertion that SMeyer can't write. According to them, King is just jealous of Meyer. Stephen King is jealous of Stephenie Meyer. Stepen "Shawshank Redemption/Carrie/The Stand/Dark Tower/Misery" King. Jealous. Of Stephenie Meyer.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

*goes off to read On Writing by Stephen King*

oh, twihards. judging from twit granger's irrepressible need to throw in random french and latin in a desperate attempt to sound more intelligent, combined with the irredeemable stench of meyer's writing, i'm guessing the most he's read of portrait of the artist as a young man is the plot overview on sparknotes. (seriously. bella? artist? when the hell does she ever launch herself solo to forge anything within the smithy of her pre-vamp soul? having your lead character think "their true love is just mine" is hardly using classic literature as a "scaffold" for the series.)

Okay, while I think that King's books are pretty hit and miss, liking only a few of them, myself, I can't argue that the man is 1) knows what he's talking about when it comes to writing, or 2) is not the absolute COOLEST for actually calling Meyer out like this. It's wonderful.

Call me crazy, other people have, but I'm not a Stephen King fan. I've read more than one of his books, Carrie included. Just not a fan. I don't even like half the movies they made out of them. Carrie was okay, in my book. I didn't dislike it, but it didn't WOW me. I've read much much better. Maybe he's just not my style, I dunno. I really am more of a Guy Gavriel Kay, Charles de Lint, Neil Gaiman girl.

Still, I agree with him. Her books may be compelling, have good plots, etc. but...her writing needs work. She really can't write very well. The Host was better than the Twilight stuff, I think.

Speaking of people calling people out, did you hear about Etta James dissing Beyonce??? *squees with joy*

Her books may be compelling, have good plots, etc. I think you're being more than generous with that one, although I'll agree that the Host was better done than anything else.
