The Kung Fu movies statement is a reference to last year when Sam and I were at Barnes & Noble on December 31. Every place was closing early for New Years Eve, much to our disappointment. It was then that I piped up, "Well, why don't we go back to the hotel and watch Iron Monkey?" (I'd seen it in his movie collection he brought over earlier and had wanted to see it for years.) Sam reacted by promptly smiling and telling me, "You are officially awesome for suggesting that."

Plans are for us to watch Once Upon a Time in China 1&2, Transporter (just the first one, I think), and some other action and martial arts flicks while I'm down there.

Yeah, he thinks he hit the girlfriend jackpot or something. :)

No, I'm not going to just "let it go," damnit.

I read Portly Dyke's letter to President-Elect Obama and I nearly had to grab a box of tissues. If ever a letter captured why Obama's selection of Rick Warren was such a blow to those who identify as LGBTQ, it's this.

A snippet:

When you hear the invocation that Pastor Warren is allowed to give, please listen with my ears.

I realize that this will be "your day" in many ways, and that you are straight, and Christian. I personally have no problem with you wanting to have a spiritual invocation that reflects your belief system - but if you hear prayers which invoke only "traditional" families, or only Christians, or which lean too heavily on any structure which contributes to institutionalized oppression of any sort -- I implore you to remember that you will be President of every citizen of this country, and to listen with the ears of those whose voices are rarely heard from the bully pulpit.

Go read, and have a tissue handy.
