This Conversation Actually Happened

One more post and then I'll stop for tonight. A silly one as I have some serious stuff to post, but I want to stay happy tonight.

Sam and I watched The Punisher Thursday night. It's a pretty awesome movie with John Travolta doing an excellent job as a villain. Anyway, the villain's son is being tailed by Frank Castle/The Punisher at one point. In the scene, you see the son getting into a car and a couple of scantily clad women coming over to admire it. One of them is wearing a short skirt and you can see certain parts of Europe without underpants.

Jade: "And there goes the gratuitous ass shot."
Sam: "I want that car."
Jade: "...the car?"
Sam: "An original 427 Shelby Cobra? Yes, I want it!"
Jade: "Did you see the woman and the short skirt?"
Sam: "Yes, but it's a 427 Shelby Cobra. I noticed it more than the woman."
Jade: "It probably says something about this relationship that I noticed the woman and you notice the car."
Sam: "You don't understand. It's a 427 Shelby Cobra! I'd give up a body part for that car! Maybe even my left testicle."
Jade: (laughing very hard at this point) "I love you." *kisses his forehead*
Sam: "I love you too, and I'm very glad you're not going to give me shit about my love of a nice car over the sight of a woman's bare ass."

I now understand the meaning of car lust.

More Music Rambling

I've discovered Shinedown. Rather, I've finally got around to getting three of their albums after hearing songs on the radio by them that I loved. I have to say I'm enjoying all three. The lead singer can really belt it out and tear it up (their cover of "Simple Man" is amazing). However, while opening my CD cases Thursday night, I stumbled upon this message on the liner notes for their Leave a Whisper album:

This record was written for the dreamers, for the people that have, in one way or another been cut down or cast out of society for being different or having an opinion, it is an expression of insecurity and frustration, and yet, the will to overcome.

I groaned and then read this out loud to Sam. I openly mocked it because, hey, I was the fifteen year-old emo kid and I know what it's like. I was, literally, an outcast and a loner, and even then I found shit like this patronizing at best. Really, I could enjoy the lyrics and I do still identify with them (especially the song "45" for reasons I'll explain later), but all the raging and fist pumping in the world never changed the fact that my existence at the time was kind of crappy. To open an album to read this was mildly disappointing. I realized they were going for a certain audience, and because of my age and cynicism, I'm probably not what they thought of.

So, I was a little bummed even though I enjoyed the album. That is, until I really had a chance to listen to their most recent album The Sound of Madness. I am now laughing out loud and I'll post the lyrics to the song "Sound of Madness" to show you why.
