Home Again, Home Again Jiggity-Jig
Jun. 20th, 2011 08:32 pmI am finally home a little later than planned. I'm stressed, tired, and anxious, which it typical after a long drive and especially understandable under the circumstances.
The facility where Mom is at is absolutely wonderful. I was afraid that since it's a nursing home, it'd have this depressing atmosphere, but the staff was absolutely lovely (and, of course, my mother knew or knew of at least half the staff already, not to mention being related to the head of the rehabilitation program) and the place is just beautiful. Even the patients seemed in good spirits, which really tells how good this place is.
As for Mom, she's in good spirits and they've done a pretty great job of managing her pain. Of course, she can't do anything without assistance as her arms are pretty much useless and are strapped to her sides at the moment. I fed her dinner one night and I barely resisted making airplane noises (she joked about being fed first, so it would have been well received). I'm kind of surprised at how well the family is pulling together for her, though I still suspect I'll get some flak at some point for not doing enough (Who me, pessimistic?).
If certain things work out for me, I'm going to try and go back in a couple of weeks for another visit. Of course now my focus is on finding a job and trying to keep from getting overly stressed and anxious.
Anyway, gonna catch up on LJ and DW and possibly make an appearance on WoW (though not sure how much I'll do aside from say hello to guildies). If I miss anything, let me know. I was at least able to have NPR, and I indulged in some guilty pleasure TV since Mom's house has two TVs and I didn't have to share with the kiddo. And yesterday I caught up on Deadliest Catch thanks to Discovery's Father's Day Marathon.
Uh, I did do some writing, though it's not quite ready (the trip wore me out more than I thought, and then the kiddo was a handful). Tomorrow I should have it ready for posting, and then I'll find out what this week's prompt is.
