As you might recall, back in June (around June 12 or 13 to be exact), my mother fell at home and broke both her shoulders. Since that time she's been in the local nursing home (well, technically it's not a nursing home anymore, but everyone still calls it that since it's in the same location). Today she learned that on September 1, she'll finally get to go back home.

Of course this is assuming there are no unforseen set backs (i.e. another fall) and she will have an occupational therapist dropping by her house five days per week plus another person dropping by twice per week to help her do things around the house such as laundry and chores. However, she's over the moon about being able to finally go home and resuming a life without 'round the clock nurses and hospital beds.

The only bad news is that her orthopedic surgeon told her it's likely she will never be able to raise her arms over her head again. She'll be able to fix her hair and do her makeup "in time," but replacing a light bulb on the ceiling is out of the question. Mom was pretty bummed to hear that, but she had a suspicion from day one that her life was going to be drastically altered in some way. Still, it's one thing to think it and another to actually have a doctor deliver a poor prognosis. She sounded in better spirits today because now there's an end in sight.

It's been a long summer for her.
