I'm writing a story for Folami and getting back into [livejournal.com profile] tamingthemuse at the same time. The story takes place sometime in the very near future (depending on current role-play events) and it has Folami going back to Sunstrider Isle to meet with her father by his "request." (In fact tonight I'm going to sneak in just one little statement about Folami tucking a letter away. hehehe)

Anyway, while thinking about what her father's like, I had this idea and I think it could work. But in order to really feel confident about it, I need to know a bit more about Blood Elf Paladins.

So, in all likelihood, today I will take an hour or two to play through some of the Blood Elf Paladin start to get some inspiration. I swear I'm not becoming an alt-aholic! This is purely for research. No, really it is. And, um, by Saturday I'll have a shiny new story up to be read.

And then I can think of role-play ideas.

So, Jade, how did you spend your Easter Sunday?

I'm glad you asked, Unnamed Person. After getting home from taking my mother to the bus station, I decided to play a little WoW. First, I showed my Alliance toon (a Worgen Hunter) some love and got him up to level twenty. After that, I played around a little more, mostly because I wanted to see how Worgens get to be their own mount at level 20. While running around Darkshore on all fours, I spied a Strider Clutchmother and noticed she was not only a rare monster, but she was tameable for Hunters.

And thus Conleth tamed his first pet (though she's his second pet overall, just the first he's tamed).

Isn't she pretty?

After a very short nap and dinner, I hopped onto my Horde-side Warlock. After chatting with my fellow Guildies, I was convinced to try out the Noblegarden event in Falconwing Square and then Brill.

And so it came to pass, after much complaining of egg campers, that I spent over an hour running around hunting for Easter Brightly Colored Eggs until I had enough Noblegarden Chocolates to purchase this companion for Folami:

"I shall call him Mr. Flufflebottom."

Isn't he adorable? Now I have to make him fall in love with another bunny so I can earn some achievement or other. (I'm not exactly clear on how this works, but he does leap onto me when I'm in bunny form. Don't ask. Just, don't.)

The sad thing is that I'm going to continue hunting for eggs so I can get some of the holiday-related clothing for role-play outfits. What? Stop looking at your screen like that. You can't judge me!

So, despite feeling a little tired, I decided to hang out in Vent and WoW for Steadfast's Altruistic Pursuit trivia night. Being that I'm new and haven't even dared to try a dungeon let alone raiding, I didn't answer a single question, but I did happen to learn a few things.

Anyway, the rules of Altruistic Pursuit are that if you win a prize, you have to give that prize to a fellow guild member. Again, being that I'm new, I wasn't expecting anything.

One of the people I've role-played with, Skyspear, won first prize, a Sandbox Tiger, which summons a special Spectral Tiger mount. He tried to give it to Solivar, but it turns out guardians cannot receive the prize, so then he gave it to me for the fun we've had role-playing so far.

And then, as if that wasn't enough, another guildie and occasional role-player, Highwynn, gave his prize of 2500 gold to me as well. Because noobs are poor like whoa. :(

I thanked both of them as well as I could since I was kind of in shock and feeling speechless. Because I was so excited, I stayed up long enough to head to Booty Bay to retrieve my prize and then I just had to take a screenshot of Folami playing with her new toy (which I can only summon 49 more times). Folami even has an appropriate hat for the occasion.

"Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!"

So, this is a little angsty, but the scene it's referring to is pretty dark and angsty itself. My assignment was to write a reaction to an event that happened during the last Tavern Night (actually, it kind of happened before then, but thanks to random asshats crashing our role-play scene we only got to discuss it Tuesday) and here it is. It's very short (only 431 words), a little weak, but I enjoyed writing Tortured-Yet-Defiant Folami. :)

The walls came alive with shadows that stretched toward the ceiling and danced in time to the flickering flame from a single white candle set in the center of a small table in the cramped quarters of the inn room. )

Folami got her first companion/pet the other day and I forgot to upload the small screenshot!

Isn't that the cutest (PINK!) little flamefly you've ever seen? She calls him Pinky and she probably squealed when she first got him because he's so adorable!

I have another WoW post brewing in my head, but it's not just about WoW, it's also about role-playing in general. Also, it's about me having a big ego. :P

Okay, just look at the adorable insect. Now I have to pack up to head over to Sam's to do laundry.

Writing for Folami again, this time something that is relevant to current role-play happenings within the guild. It's a set-up for getting Folami into Silvermoon to meet another character (or two?) who is (are) involved with the plot. It's only 557 words, so short and sweet, and there's no naughty words or any violence. Heck, there's not even any angst, or at least not more than a mere smidgen.

Also, I've proofread this a couple of times...under the influence of decongestant medicine due to this cold I've managed to catch over the weekend. So, uh, I tried to edit, but there might be something I missed. Yeah. (And yes, this little story will be going up elsewhere for the other guild members to see.)

******

It was easy to spend hours wandering the streets of Silvermoon City drifting in and out of the many shops to sample the various wares, and that was normally how Folami spent her visits there, but not this time. After her requisite trip to Orgrimmar, her mind had refused to cease its constant replay of the conversation she’d happened to overhear at the inn. Reason told her she should let it go, that involving herself in matters of potentially dangerous magical artifacts without being first being asked was begging for trouble, not to mention possible decapitation if that one death knight’s threats were to be believed. However, curiosity was often stronger than reason, and this was especially true wherever Folami was concerned. The moment the opportunity presented itself, she headed straight for Silvermoon to see what she might be able to learn about this mysterious mirror.

• Why is it that when the kiddo has a day off from school (teacher work day) I suddenly lose all ability to actually sleep in? It seems it's catching since Sam (who's spending the week here again) got up a little bit before I did after waking up and failing to fall back asleep.

• I love my current blood elf warlock in WoW and have approximately fifty gajillion character development ideas for her, but I was also hit with inspiration for another character. A Forsaken warrior or priest with a particularly angsty background (look, I have a knack for angst, and in all honesty, Folami isn't as angsty as all that). Part of me wants to do the priestly thing to learn how healing works in WoW, and so that I can have an alt that would probably be useful in groups way, way down the line. The other part of me remembers being an empath in CoH and what a thankless, mind-numbing job that could be on taskforces (especially since, well, they aren't damage dealers and are fairly squishy). Then again, parties/raids seem to work a hell of a lot differently in WoW than in CoH, where you don't necessarily always need an empath. In fact, the people I hung out with could solo just about anything regardless of the buffs/healing I could offer. Either way, it's an idea that's niggling at me, and I'm thinking I might try to find time to start up a Forsaken priest (though it'll be a few months before I could have an alt in Steadfast; still, I can just work on her a little bit at a time). If I don't like it, I can delete and switch to warrior (my role-play idea can work either way).

• Is anyone else surprised I've yet to try figuring out how to fit one of my FFRPG characters into the WoW setting? :p (I'm not, but it's kind of hilarious to me.)

• I have so many story ideas bouncing around in my head. Abandoning the Folami vignette idea for now since I have something else to write for her that's relevant to current role-play situations. I still have an idea for a short story on Pasha that takes place prior to her meeting Jodan, and it sets up a bit of world-building.

• Going to be packing up Sam, the kiddo, and Sasha to head over to Sam's house later today to spend the night. His mom had a birthday this week and tomorrow is when all the partying will be done. Some people are coming in from out of town and I'm supposed to meet them, show off the kiddo, etc. Sasha's going with us because A) we'll be gone over night, and B) she hasn't been out to Sam's house in a while and will love a chance to get to play with Sam's parents' two dogs. Let's just hope she'll not try to take a swim in the creek again.

• As I said on Twitter, Sam and I came in to sit on the couch and we were immediately swarmed by cats who know there's wet food to be had. I feel a little like I've been tossed in the ocean after someone's put chum in the water.

Crappy writing for the win.

Uh, I had a bad day today (it's kiddo-related and I'll write about it later). I'm staying up late due to being upset and (now) a headache. I get to sleep in Saturday and then I'll feel better. (And yes, the kiddo is fine, there's just some new issues cropping up that are related to his speech delay and changes happening both at home and at school.)

Anyway, I'm working on little vignettes for my WoW character Folami to help give her some background. What follows is the first of those vignettes, rough draft, and the first bit of writing I've really done since...January? I'm going to write more tomorrow. I'm also thinking of following through on a short story idea I had for Pasha that takes place four or five years before she meets Jodan, and that might jar me into getting back into actually writing that novel.

So, the first vignette is only about 512 words, and, as I said, rough draft. I just wanted to put it up here because...I don't know. I'm rambling now. Yay for Excedrin.

It was the smell Folami would remember most the day her father dragged her deep into the Eversong Woods to show her the Wretched; the smell of earth and rotting leaves that greeted her when her father shoved her off the saddle of his Hawkstrider. )
