Sasha is approxiamately ten weeks old now, which means it's been one month since I found her on the side of the road. She had her follow up vet appointment today for another round of shots. She now tips the scales at a whopping twelve pounds, which is exactly double her weight from three weeks ago. All is well and we go back in three weeks for another round of shots.

As for the breed, it is now definitive she is at least part chow. The black spots on her tongue have gotten bigger, and her gums are partially black. Her fur is still soft and she's getting used to being brushed regularly. She has her first grooming appointment Monday morning, so I'll have to take pictures of her once she's been properly pampered.

Also, I thought I would take some pictures of her so everyone can see how much she's grown in such a short amount of time. Click the cut to see the many faces of Sasha.

Sasha is destined to be a star...in her own mind. )

I've got a pretty big and personal post I'm going to be working on, but until then, I've read a lot of good links today and I wanted to pass them along.

"The 'tragedy' of hook up culture. And scare quotes." by Jessica Valenti over at Feministing - "What's interesting is that right off the bat, George and Londregan assume that young people don't like hooking up and sex - it's the dark side after all - and that all that's stopping them from living a life of morality is the lack of a college-funded chastity center. (They recommend calling them "Love and Fidelity Centers.")

• I'm sure no parent would be thrilled to find their teenaged daughter was sending nude pictures of herself to her boyfriend's cell phone, but would they want their daughter to be charged with distributing child pornography if she did? Thomas MacAulay Millar provides some great links regarding cases of states pushing to do just such a thing and explains exactly why it's a very, very bad idea.

• Guestblogger BGK explains just how bad Rob Schneider's direct-to-DVD movie Big Stan is over at Shakesville. (Here's a clue: He and his adorable pug Starbuck were only able to stomach 30 minutes of it.) [Trigger warning]

"You know you're a bad person when..." - "You use a tragic plane crash that killed 7 adults and 7 children as “pro-life” fodder." (Take your blood-pressure meds for this one.)

• And finally, another guestblogger at Shakesville write a very powerful piece on mental illness. "My View from the Ceiling" - this is the post that has me inspired to write my own story involving mental illness.

ETA: This'll teach me to check The Shapely Prose before posting.

"The End of 'Results Not Typical'?" Because I can't just pick one good quote, have a chuckle:

Can you fucking imagine the ads? “Jane Doe wanted to lose 50 pounds, actually lost 10, then gained 15 back! CALL TODAY TO START YOUR NEW LIFE!” “Suzy Smith lost 80 pounds, which is so rare on this program it would be unethical of us to pretend you have any real prayer of doing the same thing, and five years later, she’d gained it all back and then some! DON’T YOU WANT TO BE LIKE SUZY?” “Jared Fogle lost 245 lbs. eating nothing but vegetable sandwiches, and has kept it off for 10 years because his full-time job is now being a paid spokesperson for Subway. You, too, can keep off massive amounts of weight if someone pays you loads of money to eat as little as it takes and spend all your time exercising! TRY OUR FOOTLONG STEAK ‘N’ CHEESE.”
