Dear [livejournal.com profile] booju_newju,

Enough with the octuplets already! I don't care the woman had six kids before seeking fertility treatment for her most recent pregnancy. It is no fucking business of mine or yours how many children a woman wants to have. Maybe she didn't want eight, but she couldn't bring herself to reduce the number when she find out she was having more than one, and why the fuck should she? How many babies an individual chooses to have shouldn't be something that's up for debate.

Let me spell it out for you: H-E-R C-H-O-I-C-E. Got it? Spell it out, repeat it, or write it on your monitor, I don't care. STOP FUCKING ASKING THE COMMUNITY HOW MANY CHILDREN WE WOULD ALLOW A HYPOTHETICAL DAUGHTER/NIECE/FRIEND/FATHER'S COUSIN'S SISTER'S FORMER ROOMMATE TO HAVE!

No love,

Jade

Now I remember why I avoid most of the parenting related communities on LJ.

I stay away from most discussion forums, communities, because I can't stand the idiocy.

Honestly? Depends on whose wallet is providing the money for all these children. If it's just her money, then more power to her. If she's on the government dole, however, then yes, the government should have a say on how their money is spent.

Being pro-choice doesn't mean you get to say, "But only if you can afford children can you have them." Really, there are people who start out being able to afford children and then life happens; someone loses a job, or someone dies, then suddenly their financial security is no more.

I wasn't exactly financially well off when I got pregnant with the kiddo (wasn't trying to get pregnant either, it was a surprise). The "government" (AKA the state of Maine) paid for my medical bills and I was on WIC until I relocated back here to SC where the cost of living was way lower and I had relatives to help out. So by your reasoning, they should have been able to tell me I couldn't have a kid and been forced to abort or adopt because, hey, I was spending "their" money.

Furthermore, if this woman has six kids and was able to afford fertility treatment, I highly doubt she was on government assistance of any kind, so rest assured your tax dollars are probably safe from the terrible burden of making sure children are able to have access to proper healthcare and nutrition.

As a final note, if you want know what happens when government starts deciding who can and can't have children, you need not look any further than North Carolina. For forty years poor black women were sterilized against their wills. (http://againsttheirwill.journalnow.com/) Forgive me, but I really get a stick up my butt when someone comes in and says anyone, goverment or individual, should have the right to dictate who can and can't have children.
