Ebook readers?

Anyone on either of my f-lists have an ebook reader? Nook or Kindle (or other)?
Seeing as my bookshelf space (and space to add more shelves) is definitely not infinite, and I've got room in my budget for one (though definitely not the new color Nook), I'm thinking it might be more sensible for me to make the move to digital. That way, if I don't like a book, I can just delete it, and if I really love it and want a physical copy, I can buy it at some point later.
I'm just looking at the pros and cons of the different brands. Also, if I get a Kindle, could I order ebooks from sites other than Amazon? I already know I can get a Nook via Books-A-Million (where I prefer to spend my money), but I wasn't totally sure that if I went with a Kindle that I could order from BAM or other place.
