A Big-Ass Holiday Picture Post (Part 2)

And this is the post where I both display pictures of Christmas presents Sam and I received and brag about his talented family.

This necklace wasn't, to my knowledge, made by Sam's mother. It might have been, but I'm fairly certain it was made by another area artist as I've seen them on display at the gallery she co-runs with two other wonderful artists. She does make some jewelry, but her main work is in ceramics. I'm going to find out the artist's name because s/he has other necklaces and jewelry on sale at the gallery. (Oh, and if anyone's curious, it's the One of a Kind Art (OOAK) Gallery in Micaville, NC. They have art from 120+ local artists ranging from ceramics, to paintings, and jewelry.)

The elder of Sam's two youngest sisters made these earrings for me. She's an artist in her own right who's trying to get her life back on track.
The next two presents were both made by Sam's youngest sister, and yes, by made I do mean "she threw the clay, molded it, fired it, glazed it, and fired it again." She's started taking ceramics classes recently, though she's got a leg up in that department given that she's apprenticed at her mother's side.

This is a bacon cooker. Despite how it looks, it's all one piece and there are holes in the bottom of the cup part. What you do is you drape bacon over the top part of it and put it in the microwave for about five minutes. The grease drips into the cup and the saucer part and when it's done, you remove the bacon and pour the grease out to either toss or keep for use in other dishes.
Here's a top view:

And here's the cute little teapot she made for me:

She already has her own shelf at the gallery to display her work, and I've seen her working on teapots with bamboo handles, which I hope to snag soon. Right now I'm about to go have this teapot's innagural cup of tea. I've got a bag of chammomile tea steeping. Mmmm.
By the way, Sam's youngest sister is only twenty years old. She also has an amazing soprano singing voice and last night we got treated to her and her father singing a harmonized "Amazing Grace."
And there will be more pictures later, soon as I get some from Sam's mother since I forgot to take my camera to Christmas dinner last night. Oops.
