* Jade stirs in the morning, rolling over to her right side in her bed and tries to sleep in a little longer.
* Sasha appears at the edge of the bed.
Sasha: "Yip, woof, yip." (Translation: "Oh, you're awake. Can we play?")
Penny: "[indecipherable grunting]" (Translation: "If you need me, I'll be on the couch.")
* Penny gets up and walks to the living room.
* Jade groans and pulls the covers up.
Sasha: "Whimper, woof, yip, yip!" (Translation: "Yay, I love peek-a-boo. Now it's your turn to pet me.")
* Jade sighs and pets Sasha's head.
Jade: "Good morning Sasha."
* Sasha wags her tail and tries to nip and pounce on Jade's hand.
* Jade is typing at her computer, pretending to be an aspiring writer.
* Sasha gets under the table and lays at Jade's feet for a few minutes before nipping at her toes.
Jade: "Ow!"
* Jade resumes typing.
* Sasha tugs on Jade's pants with her teeth.
* Jade looks down between her legs and sees this.
Jade: "What?"
Sasha: "Woof, woof, woof!" (Translation: "Oh, hey, since you're not busy anymore, can we play?")
* Jade is helping Kiddo get dressed.
* Sasha tries to play with Kiddo.
* Kiddo giggles.
* Sasha tries to run off with Kiddo's sock and/or shoe.
Kiddo: "My shoes!"
* Sasha stops and sits down.
Sasha: "Yip, yip, yip-yip." (Translation: "Hey, let's run outside!")
Jade: "Just a second, Sasha. We need to finish putting on clothes."
Sasha: "Woof, whimper, whimper." (Translation: "But you're taking too long!")
* Jade tries to cook at the stove.
* Sasha tugs on Jade's pants or nips at her feet.
Jade: "Ow! Stop that!"
Sasha: "Yip-yip, yip-yip." (Translation: "You're not doing anything important. Let's play.")
* Jade finds her shoes and stops at the door.
Jade: "Sasha? Let's go walk to the mailbox and run around outside."
Sasha: "ZzzzzZzzzz." (Translation: "Can't you see I need my beauty sleep?")

Date: 2009-03-12 02:29 pm (UTC)I was about to comment on your lj with a random question. My mother's birthday is coming up, and I remember you saying you baked a diabetic cake (or were going to) for a relative's birthday. Can you tell me where you got the recipe or where I can find ones like it? I want her to be able to indulge a little without throwing her blood sugar sky high. (She'll be 60, so it's a milestone birthday in a way.) Thanks in advance. :)

Date: 2009-03-12 04:12 pm (UTC)As far as the cake is concerned... this is what I do. I lighten up the cake and make it as 'clean' as possible. I will use natural sweeteners or I will cut the sugar with Splenda. Sometimes I use egg beaters in place of whole eggs. If the cake calls for 4 eggs you can use 2 full eggs and 2 egg whites. I always choose a healthy oil in place of butter.
Using this chart:

It is challenging to lighten up icing but it can be done by using light butter (LAND O LAKESĀ® Light Butter with Canola Oil) or 1/3 fat cream cheese. Or you could opt to do a cake without icing and just dust it lightly with confectioners sugar.
Here is an example of how I lightened up brownies:

This is a good magazine:

Another option is angel food cake with fresh strawberries and light whipped cream.
This looks like a wonderful recipe too with fat free yogurt to give the cake moisture.

Cooking light is another great site to search for a cake. http://www.cookinglight.com/
I hope you followed all that. :-)
Ask me questions if you need me to clarify.
