So I'm listening to The Smoking Gamer's special "But Wait, There's Lore" episode concerning Jaina Proudmoore and her new book and the upcoming events in the game. Referencing an interview by Blizz Planet with Christie Golden, Pride mentions that Jaina's had a few partners (and that she's "gone around the block a few times, har har!" Ow, sprained my eyes from rolling them so hard. Let's ignore that one of those partners was just a friend, really.), and Golden says something like they needed a romance for Jaina in the book. I guess to make it more compelling?

Why isn't Jaina being a bad ass mage not compelling enough? Why does she have to always be paired off with Thrall/Kael'Thas/[Spoiler]? And what the fuck is so bad if Jaina's been either unlucky in love, or just a chick who wants to have boyfriends but doesn't want to settle down because, you know, she's busy running a fucking kingdom and being a one bad-ass motherfucking mage?

WHY DOES JAINA, A WOMAN WITH HER OWN FUCKING CITY, NEED ANYONE? You know what's reasonable to me? Jaina going, "You know what? You're really nice and all that, and I really dig your hair, but see, [Spoiler] just risked being named a traitor to the Horde to tell me my home's about to get fucked up by Garrosh, so I'm going to focus on saving my people instead of romance."

Given who Jaina's been paired off with, I'm betting she's going the way of Tyrande Whisperwind with her treatment. You know, how powerful Priestess of Elune is out shined by her husband Malfurion. Then again, maybe she could end up like Sylvanas's characterizations, but that'd make her evil.

For those that don't know, you can watch the first two episodes of Legend of Korra today at Korra Nation for free, and unlike previous leaks and the files that were being downloaded a few days ago, this is completely legal and authorized by Nickelodeon. No danger of getting in trouble, and it's almost guaranteed to stay up!

I've watched it and, oh man, this series already has such a promising start. Also, right out the gate Brian and Mike are trolling the fans regarding the fate of Zuko's mother (if you watch, you'll see the moment I talk about early in episode one).

So, go watch because April 14 is too long to wait!

There's been another video leak/release from The Legend of Korra, and it is, quite simply, fabulous.

I'll sum up the White Lotus members' response to meeting young Korra with emoticons:

O_O

...

-_-

It's just fantastic!

Also, I don't think there's been an official release date just yet. *Shakes fist at Nickelodeon.*

George Lucas Says Han Never Shot First, You Were Just Confused

As it turns out, those who saw that controversial edit as a fundamental betrayal of the character—changing Han Solo from a shrewd, streetwise bad-ass to a guy who got really lucky that Greedo is such a lousy shot; rendering his evolution from amoral antihero to full-blown hero less meaningful, etc. —well, they were just confused all along, because Lucas now says Han never shot first:
The controversy over who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo, in Episode IV, what I did was try to clean up the confusion, but obviously it upset people because they wanted Solo to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn’t. It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.

I'm not going to live in a world where Han didn't shoot first, and you can't make me. LALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU, GEORGE

Mists of Pandaria Official Expansion Trailer

On the one hand: Woot, a class that punches things in the face.

On the other hand: Pandas.

Captain America: "Big man in a suit of armor. Take that away and what are you?"
Tony Stark: "Uh, genius billionaire playboy philanthropist."

Oh, Tony, never ever change. Ever. <3

I don't care, this movie looks like it'll be fantastic. Thor wasn't what I was expecting, but it was still enjoyable, and hey, any movie where I can drool over RDJ, Chris Helmsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Chris Evans for extended period of time counts as a win in my book.

NCIS Season Nine Premier is TONIGHT starting at 8PM Eastern on CBS!!!

Ahem, I will be there for Tavern Night (possibly running it depending on how Solivar's battle with evil allergens goes today). NCIS will be over by 9:00, but I sincerely hope no one will need me before then because my eyes will be glued to the screen.

Wonder if there'll be any patented Gibbs's headslaps tonight? Bets?

I'm bored enough for this, yes. Taken from [livejournal.com profile] sodzilla who stole it from someone else.

Give me a character's name and I will tell you three reasons why it would be terrible to try to date them, have sex with them, or be in a long-term relationship with them.

For an extra challenge, pick characters you know I'm fond of. Anyone can tell you reasons not to date Cthulhu, after all.

Since I don't write fanfiction or talk about it much, here's a little list of some of my favorite things (in no particular order):

List of things I love. )

For my FFRPG buddies, I'll allow questions about characters I've played OR about characters mine have interacted with. :)

Around 11:15 PM last night, a huge gust of wind came rolling down the ridge behind my house. Less than a minute later my power and cable went out and the wind got so loud that I thought a tornado was surely bearing down on us. Well, it wasn't a tornado, just a hellacious thunderstorm that raged for about an hour before fading away into stillness. The power stayed out until about 3:30 AM, which means I am plumb wore out today, to borrow a Southern-ism. (I didn't stay up waiting for it to come back; I just woke up when the power came back on and I had to get up to reset my alarm clock and turn off lights and the TV.)

More rain is expected throughout today and the rest of this week with chances for more thunderstorms, but I think really bad weather is over for now. What startled me was that we had absolutely no warning whatsoever. All was quiet and then BAM! Usually there's a rumble of thunder, some lightning, or at least a drop or two of rain. Even so, we managed to come out of it unscathed. Other counties were reporting wind damage and fallen trees. In Rutherford county, North Carolina, about sixty miles from here, two eighteen year-old girls are dead after a large tree fell over on their house. My thoughts go out to their family.

I occasionally complain about the lack of shade in my yard, but after last night I'm kind of glad there's not any trees near my house and that I've got a large open pasture behind me. About the worst that might happen is a cow or a goat gets flung against my house, which would take stronger winds than what we had last night. It would also mean they were too dumb to take shelter.

I was on WoW in the middle of our role-play night (which was winding down at that point at least) when it happened. I had no opportunity to warn that I might disappear or even mention the possibility of a storm. At least it waited until after all the plot information was discussed and between two of us, there should be a complete log available for guild records.

Ugh, I am so glad Wednesdays are "no homework" days for the kiddo. I seriously am too brain dead to help him do something as simple as two plus two.

Edit: Any NCIS fans here? Did you see last night's episode? Oh my god! Franks! P2P killer! Crying Ziva! New agent Barret being an idiot! And next week is the season finale! (I have to admit the opening two minutes when they showed Palmer first had me freaking out that something happened to Ducky.)

The new Wonder Woman (television series):

The good: To me, she actually looks like someone who could give the bad guys a really bad day, someone who can take care of herself without needing to be rescued. (Do you hear me, David E. Kelley?)

The bad: The costume sucks. I mean, seriously? It looks like bad Halloween get-up I can buy at Spencer's. And that top, oh that top. You know, it's entirely possible to show off cleavage and enhance one's bustline without being in danger of flashing the world if you so much as breathe wrong. I should know. *cough*

Also, part of Wonder Woman's schtick was the patriotic theme of her costume. It's not a deal breaker for me, it's just that I do have some nostalgia from watching the old Lynda Carter Wonder Woman series as a really young kid. Girls have so few women superheroes to look up to as it is, and after what's been happening with the Wonder Woman comic reboot, I'm feeling more than a little leery of a television series (that's possibly doomed to failure already).

On the other hand, Carey Elwes is involved so I might have to watch it just to see how he manages to perform in what is surely to be a train wreck.

Oh, Joss, you are by no means perfect, but I still wish you could have directed a Wonder Woman movie. Somehow I feel that it would be far better than what's coming.

More bad reviews for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender. When Roger Ebert gives your movie half of a star while giving Twilight: Eclipse two stars, you know it's going to be ugly.

Pretty much the consensus is that Mr. Shyamalan is a legend only in his own mind. He was practically handed a complete story on a silver platter and still managed to turn it into complete and utter crap. Whatever happened to the man who directed The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable? Personally I wondered what the hell Nickelodeon was thinking when it allowed Shyamalan to wirte the screenplay and direct it. Please don't tell me the contracts were signed after The Happening, I don't think my heart could take it.

Moving away from The Last Failbender, I found two very interesting links today while sifting through comments on the reviews.

First up is an exciting Twitter post:

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER coming back as new TV series on Nickelodeon? 4 days ago Viacom filed papers to trademark AVATAR: LEGEND OF KORRA

My heart, I must admit, gave an excited flutter. And I tried to ignore this until I found out about a job posting for a storyboard revisionist to work on an "Untitled Avatar project" for Nickelodeon.

I had heard rumors that the original creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante were looking to do a fourth season of ATLA, and it looks like those rumors might indeed be true. Perhaps they're flipping the metaphorical bird at M. Night Shyamalan, or maybe they just realized they had another story to tell. Let's hope they keep up their excellent work and are able to distance themselves far, far away from The Last Failbender.

That thing I was quoted for on [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes has now made it to Fandom Wank. (This is about the [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants adult-content fiasco.)

It's so weird to see my name in communities I read but never participate in.

In all seriousness, I still stand by the fact that LJ is being ridiculous in this and might make another entry on it.

It's as if a million weaboos cried out at once on the Internet and a famous rock star's son was suddenly beset by cries of plagiarism.

Tl;dr summary: Nick Simmons, son of KISS frontman Gene Simmons, writes/draws a comic book. Fans of the anime/manga Bleach notice some very, very strong similarities between the characters, and in one case it appears that he outright traced Kenpachi. Outraged, the fans post the information for the publishing companies of all the parties involved and amazingly they get a response.

Other possible sources for his blatant stealing include Full Metal Alchemist, Hellsing, and Naruto. For more WTF-ness, he may have even lifted a character from Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

[livejournal.com profile] sf_drama has more.

Radical Publishing has responded and they are halting production of Simmons's comic. Also, Kubo Tite and his publishers (author of Bleach) are aware thanks to the thousands of fans alerting them via the Internet.

The lesson here? Do not fuck with fans in the age of the Internet, for they will mess your shit up. And plagiarism is bad, mmmkay?

I already posted that they're making a live-action Avatar movie, but what I didn't get into is the fact that, so far, the actors picked to play the main characters are all lily white and not a single Asian. This has understandably caused more than a few fans to go "WTF?" at Hollywood, but I think what Jackson Rathbone said of playing Sokka takes the proverbial cake:

Due in theaters in summer 2010, “Airbender” has already begun to face a bit of controversy over the casting of white actors like Rathbone, Ringer and McCartney to play Asian characters - a concern the actor was quick to dismiss. “I think it’s one of those things where I pull my hair up, shave the sides, and I definitely need a tan,” he said of the transformation he’ll go through to look more like Sokka. “It’s one of those things where, hopefully, the audience will suspend disbelief a little bit.” [Emphasis Mine]

Because all that I need to be Asian is a tan. Riiiiiiiight. (I really shouldn't be surprised that Jackson Rathbone starred in Twilight, should I?)

If you want information on a letter-writing protest started by fans, read this guest article by Angry Asian Man on Racialicious (where I got the quote from).
